I bought the Iomega Prestige 500 GB External Hard Drive to use as both a backup drive and additional storage on a Dell system running Vista. I was very pleased and impressed that I just plugged it in and it came right up. No formatting was necessary (although for use on a MAC, there is a need to reformat the device). The free backup software that came with it (EMC2 Retrospect) may or may not be the most fully functional backup software on the market, but it was free and it is much faster than the stock Microsoft backup.
