Musicians who take a casual approach to tuning their instruments are prone to say "Close enough for jazz." In the case of Omega's notorious hybrid between a floppy disc and a CD-R called "Jaz," anything remotely close to the predecessor would be reason to look elsewhere. (Mine, like many, simply died a quick and irreparable death. May it rest in peace.)
Perhaps Iomega is seeking to repair some of the damage inflicted upon its clientele by the Jaz by underpricing virtually every other hard drive manufacturer in the business. Less than a year ago, 80 bucks might get you an 80-120 gb no-name model. Recently my back-up program (Apple Time Machine) warned me that I had reached capacity and was good only as far back as last July for retrieving lost data. Because the Iomega is currently and decisively delivering the most bang for the buck, I decided to repress my dissonant experience with the Jaz. So far the Iomega Prestige is performing quietly and dependably (should it fail, I've got a surprisingly dependable if overly small Cavalry drive to come to rescue).
I'm hoping this one will last me until an affordable 1TB solid state model becomes available.Get more detail about Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275.
