I needed a hard drive to back up the files on my iMac, and after looking around at several brands and reading their reviews I decided on the 500 MB Iomega #34270. I found that the price was right too!
I've had it installed for about three weeks now, and it is operating with the Apple Time Machine as advertised. It was a snap to instal and started to backup my files immediately. The first backup took approximately 2 hours which is understandable since it was baking up everything on my iMac. All the backups since that time are very rapid and do not interfere with any work I am doing on the computer.
The Iomega runs with a low hum which is not disturbing at all; it has an off/on switch which I don't use, i.e., the switch is in the on position continuously. It doesn't run all the time that I have my computer running but turns itself on and off at irregular intervals, but always is on to back up the files approximately every hour. It gets a little warm to the touch, but certainly does not run hot. When I shut down the computer or put it to sleep, the Iomega also turns itself off.
Up to this point I'm very pleased with the drive's performance and have absolutely no complaints about it. I hope to give an update on the drive's action toward the end of next month. Get more detail about Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275.
