My computer's hard drive was almost full and I needed a place to put (mostly) media files. This hard drive fit the bill and works perfectly although the transfer rate/read rate is a bit slower than I'd like. Still, I have lots and lots of files, so maybe the speed is what I should expect.
I sometimes forget to turn it off, and it does not get hot; it stays lukewarm at all times. I do think a light in the front would help me to remember to turn it off regularly. As it is, the light is on the side and the power switch is in back, and the unit is silent, so there isn't a glaring signal to remind me.
I've only had good luck with Iomega products and have been using them for years. I don't think this one will be any different (fingers crossed).
