I bought this to transfer TV programs from my DISH Network receiver/recorder. I was able to very easily transfer the programing to my new unit, but the transfer rate was very slow. It took about 14 hours, so plan a lot of time if this is your intended use.Formatting was automatic, but be aware that you need to pay $39.99 (approx,) a one time fee to DISH to activate the service. I have read mixed reviews on the reliability of this unit, but so far it has been very good and the quality of the unit seems excellent. Owners manual and info is limited ,but the unit was very easy to use.
