I purchased this drive to off-load files from one of our iMacs. Soon after formatting the drive and moving files to it, I encountered problems transferring files to it. A permissions error appear every time even though the rights were correct. Soon thereafter, the files "disappeared." Then, the drive wouldn't mount at all. Re-trying would result in various combinations of odd activity--sometimes the files would appear, sometimes not. Sometimes it would mount, others not. This was a Saturday, so I had to wait until Monday to "chat" with Iomega technical support. After some troubleshooting, the technician suggested a bad power supply. To his credit, the new supply arrived a few days later without any hassles.
Needless to say, the problem wasn't the power supply. The problems continued. After purchasing Disk Warrior to try to repair the drive, I was no closer to a solution. Again, this was over the weekend, so I again "chatted" with support for over an hour yesterday. After losing connection once and getting passed to another support person, the solution offered was to reformat the drive--not an option with important data on the drive.
Given that the drive worked properly for only a few hours, I would have expected better service. The offer of data recovery service was sent without even personalizing the text with my name.
I will NEVER buy an Iomega drive again.Get more detail about Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275.
