Have been using this drive for about four months now with some-what heavy usage (approximately 8 - 10 hours daily, 7 days per week). Information writes very quickly to the drive, and it is incredibly quiet (especially for a large drive). I use this drive for backup purposes, however, am careful to keep another copy of all information as well as copies on DVD. With such a large drive, and the definite probability of eventual hard drive failure, it doesn't hurt to start being careful. Also, I have the 500 GB Iomega Prestige - the 500 GB and 1.5 TB are physically the same size, and actually look identical (I had to label them so as to not confuse them). Running side-by-side, the 1.5 TB drive tends to run much much hotter than the 500 GB drive, and it also gets hot very quickly. Otherwise, the drive has been incredibly reliable, and has never given me any problems.
Pros:
- Same size as the Iomega Prestige 500 GB drive - the extra hard drive space does not take up extra physical space.
- Reliable and fast writing capabilities.
- Relatively quiet (whisper-quiet, about the same decibel level as a quiet, non-rotating fan with plastic parts).
Cons:
- All hard drives eventually fail, so with the large amount of storage space available here, the opportunity for massive data loss is much greater than with a smaller drive. Always be sure to back up your information.
- The drive heats up very very quickly, and runs hotter than other drives of comparable physical size. This may mean that with extended and prolonged usage, inner parts of the hard drive may melt and/or the hard drive may fail sooner.
- Powered by AC Adapter. The Adapter cord for this brand/model is quite short - about 3 to 4 feet.
