Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275 Review

I bought this about 1 year ago at a big box store. It came down to this and a WD passport. I took this one because of size. I wasn't that concerned about format because I run Linux, specifically Ubuntu. It would need to be reformatted anyways.

I reformatted it in ext3 and have not lost any data whatsoever in the year I've had it. There were a few hiccups when the partitions would not register. the problem seemed to resolve itself within a week and it has not returned.

I was laughed at by my more techie friend for buying Iomega. They haven't got the greatest reputation after the "click of death" stuff. But he got a Maxtor one touch that died 3 months later. Somehow, I think I got the better deal after all.

I'm planning to expand my fleet of externals. 1TB is no longer sufficient space. I need several more and plan to purchase more from this manufacturer.

Pros: ease to setup even for non-Windows/Mac, sleek design, vertical prop for space saving, a rare power switch.

Cons: can get really warm but is never too hot to hold. not big enough any longer :) glitches will happen. give it time to fix itself before panicking!
