I now have eight of these drives, using them to backup my video collection for playback through a windows based box and a projector.
I use four for storage, and the other four are mirrors in case one dies. I would rather have the added expense of duplicate backup drives than have to try and rebuild 1TB of video files if something does go wrong. Now if one dies I can just buy a new one and be back up and running like nothing ever happened in less than a day (minus delivery time of course).
None of them have given me any problems whatsoever, the oldest one is just now a year old. They run cooler than expected, I've run one for several hours and it's barely warm to the touch. I really like the fact that they come with a power button so that when I'm not using one I can turn it off and not have to worry about putting extra wear on power or USB plugs. Would prefer they were powered via USB, but it's not a big hassle.
One of the drives does make a bit of noise when starting up but then quiets down in a few seconds, the rest are all but silent. One of them has a housing that is a slightly different tint, almost as it it were slightly rusted, but there is no actual problem with it and it seems to work just as well as the rest - which is perfect so far.Get more detail about Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275.
